A video compilation released by Keeptheban exposes the true brutality of hunts who continue to use increasing violence against those who seek to disrupt their illegal activities. In recent years with the repeal of the Hunting Act having been defeated both in 2017 and in 2015 when it was then proposed by David Cameron, hunts have been forced to go to extreme lengths to protect their pastime from those who seek to monitor and disrupt illegal hunting.
The video untitled ‘HUNT VIOLENCE’ portrays several of the worst incidents that have took place in the past couple of years, including a brawl between supporters of the Cheldon Buckhounds and a hunt saboteur from Devon which left him with a fractured skull and needing emergency surgery;
In a similar incident in 2015, Atherstone Hunt supporter Laura Caines was found guilty of two counts of assault by beating at Loughborough Magistrates Court;
Also in 2015, Mark Doggrell, who is huntsman of the Blackmore and Sparkford Vale Hunt, was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm, after he trampled a hunt saboteur. The victim was rushed to hospital with shattered ribs and a collapsed lung.
It is perhaps unsurprising that those who seek to inflict pain and suffering upon wildlife will happily do the same to hunt saboteurs if it means they can continue to hunt stress-free.
One notorious hunt, the Atherstone Hunt have faced no fewer than 14 prosecutions in the last 3 years for violence and other offences upon hunt saboteurs. It seems the issue is only getting worse and on many occasions the police have seemed unable and in some cases unwilling to do what it takes to protect those who are there to protect wildlife.
